Mary Jo Bean Obituary 12-15-35 to 3-8-24

A Celebration of Mary Jo Bean’s Life, age 88, of Brookeland, Texas, will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 14, 2024 at Lake Rayburn Methodist Church, Brookeland, Texas with a graveside service beginning at 2:00 p.m., Magnolia Springs Cemetery, Magnolia Springs, Texas. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.  A luncheon will be served for the family at 12:00 p.m. following the service at the church.

Mary Jo died on Friday, March 8, 2024 at her home in Brookeland, Texas.   A native of Hull, Texas she lived in Brookeland over fifty one years. She was a member of Sam Rayburn Methodist Church and was a hairdresser for Jasper Hair Design over 15 years.  During her lifetime she was a commercial sign designer and painter for oil companies, and restaurant owner/manager of Besto’s in Hull-Daisetta over 25 years.  She was a member of the Rayburn Country Marina Board, Rayburn Country Auxiliary, Rayburn Bloomers, Lake Rayburn Methodist Audubon Society and the Arbor Day Society.  Mary Jo enjoyed boating, gardening, cooking, horseback riding and decorating.  Just a few of her accomplishments were trick water skiing, participating in dance contests around the state of Texas and working with the Red Cross in disaster relief.

Mary Jo is survived by her son, James Kelly Best of Jasper, Texas; daughters, Mary Leigh Nears and husband Henry of Smith Point, Texas, Jo Ann Mann and husband Scott of Smith Point, Texas; brother, Ralph Bryan Hendricks of Lake Jackson, Texas; six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Bryan and Bessie Mary Hendricks; husbands, Jimmy Best, Roy Herider and Don Bean.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rayburn Methodist Church, 349 FM 1007, Brookeland, Texas 75931.

Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Jasper.
