Tyler County Treasurer Leann Monk has officially announced that she will seek another term in office, sharing her decision in a statement released this week.
Monk, who was first elected in 2019, said the opportunity to serve the county has been one of the greatest responsibilities of her career. She emphasized her continued commitment to the residents who rely on the Treasurer’s Office and the daily work of managing county funds.
In her announcement, Monk reflected on her time in office and expressed gratitude for the support she has received throughout her tenure.
“Since first taking office in 2019, I have been honored to serve my county as the Tyler County Treasurer. I love my county and the people I get to serve every day,” Monk said. “Each day I am reminded of this great privilege and the responsibility that comes with it. It has been the journey of a lifetime, and one in which I’d like to continue. With that being said, I am announcing my candidacy for re-election as your County Treasurer. I am truly grateful for your trust, prayers and support. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve my county.”
Role and Responsibilities of the Tyler County Treasurer
The County Treasurer serves as the chief custodian of all county funds and plays a key role in ensuring financial stability and accountability. In a county the size of Tyler County, the Treasurer’s Office operates at the center of daily financial operations, working closely with all departments, elected officials, and the Commissioners Court. Core duties include:
Managing County Funds: Receiving, depositing, and tracking all county revenue, including taxes, fees, grants, and state allocations.
Overseeing Disbursements: Ensuring that payments made by the county—such as payroll, vendor payments, and departmental expenses—are accurate, authorized, and properly recorded.
Banking and Investments: Managing county bank accounts, overseeing cash flow, and following state law on the investment of public funds to protect taxpayer dollars.
Financial Reporting: Preparing and maintaining detailed financial records, providing regular reports to the Commissioners Court, and supporting annual audits and state-required filings.
Compliance and Accountability: Ensuring that all financial practices meet state requirements, government accounting standards, and internal controls designed to prevent errors or mismanagement.
In smaller rural counties like Tyler County, the Treasurer often plays an even more hands-on role, managing daily operations directly and collaborating closely with county leadership to maintain transparency and fiscal responsibility.
Monk’s announcement formally launches her campaign for another term. The Tyler County Treasurer position will be on the ballot in the upcoming 2026 election, with additional details expected as the race progresses.
