JASPER COUNTY – A Kirbyville woman was arrested Friday night after authorities say she resisted arrest and spat on a deputy during an encounter along U.S. Highway 96.
According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Noel was dispatched at approximately 9:22 p.m. on Sept. 12 to the area of County Road 482 and Highway 96 after receiving reports of a woman walking down the road screaming and acting erratically.
Deputy Noel located the woman, later identified as Tori Clines, 34, of Kirbyville, who deputies said appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic. When approached, Clines allegedly refused commands to stop and began walking away.
The Sheriff’s Office reports that Clines resisted after being advised she was being detained. Deputy Noel was eventually able to place her on the ground and secure her in handcuffs.
As she was being placed into the back of the patrol vehicle, authorities said Clines spit on Deputy Noel before the door was closed.
Clines was booked into the Jasper County Jail on the following charges:
Harassment of a Public Servant (Third-Degree Felony)
Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor)
Public Intoxication (Class C Misdemeanor)
Sheriff Chuck Havard reminded residents that all individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. He added that his office remains committed to combating criminal activity in Jasper County.
