Kirbyville Volunteer Fire Department Banquet celebrating another Year of Success

KIRBYVILLE, Texas - The Kirbyville Volunteer Fire Department recognized service, leadership and community support during its annual Officer’s Installation and Awards Banquet held Saturday night.
The event featured guest speaker Greg Bostwick, chief meteorologist at KFDM, who delivered an informative presentation on weather patterns, hurricane preparedness and forecasting. Bostwick was also presented with an appreciation plaque for his years of service educating and informing Southeast Texas residents about severe weather.

Local veterinarian and longtime department member Dr. Hunter Burchett served as master of ceremonies for the evening.

Several current leadership positions were formally recognized during the banquet. Greg Ellis was recognized as fire chief, with Kennon Ellis serving as assistant chief. Steve Sowder was named first assistant and secretary, followed by David Jones as second assistant. Eli Husband serves as chaplain and public relations officer.
Unit captains recognized included Jeremy Richardson, Clint Cucancic, Joshua Jordan, Mike Swan, Colton Ellis, and Charles Jordan.
The department also presented several service awards. Larry Gentry was named Fireman of the Year. Rodolfo Briz received a plaque recognizing 10 years of service, while Fire Chief Ellis was honored with a plaque commemorating 40 years of dedicated service to the department.


The Business of the Year award was presented to E.E. Stringer Funeral Home, accepted by Ted Adams, for its continued support of the department and the community.

The banquet was hosted once again at Gateway Tabernacle, with members of the church providing the meal for attendees.
Department leaders highlighted the commitment of firefighters and their families, noting the sacrifices made in responding to fires, vehicle accidents, missing persons cases, flooding and other emergencies throughout Jasper County.
