Jasper man has died following an accident

A Jasper man has died following an accident just before 5:30 pm yesterday.

74-year-old Glenn Payne of Jasper was traveling South on Main Street in Jasper and for an unknown reason, veered off to the left before striking the decorative brick wall street marker head on.

A Jasper Volunteer Fire Department spokesperson said, "We were dispatched to this accident just before 5:30pm yesterday. Good Samaritans and First Responders worked quickly to remove the driver as Jasper EMS arrived for stabilization."

He was pronounced dead up on arrival at Jasper Memorial Hospital.
