Jasper County Sheriff’s Report

5-13-25

Another week is in the books. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office observed National Correctional Officers Week. We appreciate all the men and women who work at the Jasper County Jail. They wear many hats and do an extraordinary job keeping inmates in our custody safe. Their professionalism, courage and dedication deserve our utmost respect. End Time Full Gospel Church of Jasper cooked burgers and fries for our staff and inmates in honor of National Correctional Officers Week. A big thank you goes out to Brother Tommy Cunningham and his church members for their generosity.

On May 6, 2025, a young man learned that if you get caught throwing your trash out in our county, you will be issued a citation or you will be brought to jail. The young man, 22, dumped trash on CR 725. He decided to clean up his mess and was issued a citation for littering. He assured us he would never throw trash on someone else’s property again. Lesson learned without going to jail.

On May 7, 2025, a JCSO deputy was dispatched to the Bevilport community for an assault in progress. When Sgt. Wade arrived, he made contact with Jeremy Busby, 48, of Jasper. Busby would not cooperate and was detained during the investigation. During the investigation, it was found that Busby had followed a female down the road and acted aggressively toward her. The female’s family member drove by, witnessed this and took action to protect her. A physical altercation ensued and Busby exhibited a fixed blade knife during the commission of the assault against the other party. Busby was placed under arrest and booked into the Jasper County Jail for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (F2).

On May 8, 2025, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that Robert Osby, 36, of Jasper was at a residence off of CR 120. Mr. Osby had a warrant for Assault Family Violence-Impeding Breath (F3). Sgt. Wade immediately deployed to the address and placed Mr. Osby under arrest and took him to the Jasper County Jail.

On May 8, 2025, JCSO Lieutenant Ainsworth arrested Daniel Dean Wright, 45, Brookeland for an active warrant through the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office for Failure to Appear on an original charge of Felony-Possession of a Controlled Substance. Mr. Wright was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

On May 9, 2025, I had the privilege of being the Parade Marshal in the Jasper Pro Rodeo Parade. Although it was a little bit rainy, there was a great turnout. I had a great time. A big thank you goes out to the Jasper County Cowboy Church for allowing me to participate.

On May 9, 2025, Lt. Ainsworth served traffic warrants on Benny Earl Murphy, 59, of Evadale. After being placed in custody, Murphy admitted that he was in possession of Narcotics. Three packages of what is believed to be methamphetamine were found in his possession. He was then charged with Possession of a Controlled substance PG1:4G<200G (F2). He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.

On May 9, 2026, Jasper County Deputies were dispatched to an establishment called “The Barn”, located in Jasper. When deputies arrived, they learned two subjects had a verbal altercation in the parking lot that led to a 40-year-old male being shot. Prior to the deputies’ arrival, the victim of the shooting was transported to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital by a personal vehicle. The victim was transported from there to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. He has since been released from the hospital. Mureia Donta Napoleon, 47, of Jasper turned himself in and was booked into the Jasper County Jail and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (F2). Witnesses stated the two men got into a fight in the parking lot of “The Barn” and Napoleon pulled a handgun and shot the man in the head. I visited with the owner of “The Barn” on Monday morning and assured him this would not be tolerated. He was very cooperative and agreed.

On May 12, 2025, Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an alarm sounding at Tractor Supply in Buna. Upon arrival, Deputy Matt Harrell found that a suspect attempted to steal items from the fenced area outside the building. Brett Joseph Atkins, 37, of Kyle, was hiding inside the fenced area. Atkins was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief (State Jail Felony), Theft (Class A Misdemeanor), and Criminal Trespass (Class B Misdemeanor. He had been arrested earlier this month Theft at the Kirbyville Barn Feed Store.

Please note that all persons listed in this report are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

People continue to dump animals off around our county. Please note, if we catch individuals who do so, they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. It is the owner’s responsibility to take care of their animals, not the Jasper County taxpayers.

It is an honor to be the Sheriff of Jasper County and I sincerely thank the citizens of our county for allowing me to serve. Please don’t hesitate to call us if you need us.

Respectfully,

Chuck Havard

Jasper County Sheriff
