Last week, we missed our Chief Deputy, Larry Pulliam. He was at a conference collaborating with other Sheriffs’ Offices across the state. He brought back lots of important information to help and keep our jail running smoothly.
On April 29, 2025, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a student had a weapon in his vehicle. Buna ISD Chief of Police who was at the high school, immediately detained the student and began a search of the student’s vehicle. Jasper County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and continued the search, finding a large knife and several vapes. The student was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail. We strive to make sure all students have a safe environment in which to learn.
On April 30, 2025, Bolee Ozan, 23, of Hemphill, Texas, was arrested for criminal trespassing. Ozan was at the Black Sheep Saloon in Brookeland on April 25, 2025, and was asked to leave several times and he refused. A complaint was made regarding Ozan trespassing and after an investigation was conducted by a Jasper County Sheriff's deputy, a warrant was obtained for his arrest. Ozan was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
On May 1, 2025, Sgt. Wade was dispatched to a residence in Brookeland regarding a disturbance. While on scene, the suspect, Layla Hranicky, 35, of Brookeland, was found to be in possession of 1.3 grams of Methamphetamines. Hranicky was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (F3) and transported in the Jasper County Jail.
On May 1, 2025, Deputy Jason Hawthorne received an award from Crimestoppers of Southeast Texas at an awards ceremony in Beaumont. Thanks to County Judge Mark Allen, District Attorney Anne Pickle, Major Steve Crowell and our other employees for attending the ceremony.
On May 1, 2025, we had a meeting with the US Attorney’s Office in regard to the Safe Neighborhoods Initiative. We collaborated with federal partners about ways to keep our neighborhoods and communities safe.
On May 1, 2025, a JCSO Deputy was on routine patrol on SH 63 W and spotted Jared Andre Conn, 37, of Jasper, sitting on his front porch. The deputy knew that Mr. Conn had warrants and arrested Mr. Conn for active warrants including Stalking – 3rd Degree Felony, Invasive Visual Recording – State Jail Felony and Burglary of a Habitation - 2nd Degree Felony. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.
On May 1, 2025, I had an opportunity to speak at the National Prayer Hour at the Buna First Assembly God Church. I would like to thank our religious and community members for putting the program together.
On May 2, 2025, several thousand dollars worth of items were stolen from the Kirbyville Barn Feed Store in Kirbyville. An official social media post was made showing the vehicle involved in the theft and it didn’t take long to get the truck and the suspect identified. Brett Atkins, 37, of Kyle, Texas was located and arrested with Theft and was transported to the Jasper County Jail. Thanks to the Kirbyville Police Department and the public for their assistance.
On May 2, 2025, Jasper SO Sergeant Christopher was notified of a possible missing elderly female from north Jasper County. Sergeant Christopher responded to the location and spoke with family and friends. Jasper County Dispatchers were able to “ping” her cell phone which resulted in cellular activity near Lafayette, Louisiana. Jasper County Communication Operators contacted local law enforcement in that area. She was entered into the national database due to her age and medical history. Around midnight, the woman was able to contact a family member to let them know that she was lost. 911 Louisiana was contacted and Lafayette PD officers were able to locate her. Because of due diligence of Sergeant Christopher, Deputy Hollyfield and our dispatchers, the lady was returned home safely to Jasper County.
On May 3, 2025, Jamie Brooks, 59, of Buna was arrested on warrants issued by Jasper County Judge Mark Allen for Unlawful Possession of Firearm by Felon – F3 and Criminal Trespass with a Firearm - Class A Misdemeanor. These charges stemmed from an incident from April 18, 2025, in Jasper County where Brooks was originally arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Additional charges were filed after further investigation of the incident in April. Mr. Brooks was transported to the Jasper County Jail.
On May 3, 2025, I had an opportunity to hand out trophies and medals to the soccer kids at the Pineywoods Youth Soccer League in Jasper. Congrats to the Champions and all the kids for a great season.
On May 5, 2025, a Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to the Buna Sub-Courthouse regarding a wanted fugitive with outstanding San Augustine County warrants. When the deputy arrived, he arrested Sim Able Jr., 72, of Votow, Texas, for 3 warrants including Indecency with a Child – Exposure (F3) and two warrants for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child (F1). He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
On May 5, 2025, a Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputy was again dispatched to the Buna Sub-courthouse regarding a wanted fugitive. Once the deputy arrived, he arrested James West, 31, of Kirbyville. Mr. West was wanted out of Newton County on an MTRP warrant for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child (F1). He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
