Jasper County Sheriff’s Report
4-01-25
It’s been a great week here at the Sheriff’s Office with lots of good things happening.
On March 24, 2025, we hired longtime Jasper Police Department Officer Cody Christopher as Patrol Sergeant. With the experience Cody brings to the table, he will be an asset to our team.
On March 26, 2025, at approximately 7:22 a.m., Jasper County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Sunset Road at the far south end of the county in reference to a missing 3-year-old child. The mother had left the child at home alone asleep while she took the other children to school. The child was located by a neighbor walking down the street. Jasper County Justice of the Peace Steve Connor issued a warrant for Erin Elizabeth Hebert, 28, of Vidor (south Jasper County). Hebert was charged with Abandon/Endanger of a Child with Intent to Return, a State Jail Felony, and was booked into the Jasper County Jail.
On March 26, 2025, Joy Lynn Hand, 50, of Buna was arrested after an investigation involving a burglary that occurred on March 8, 2025, in Buna (Cougar Country). After investigating, a Jasper County deputy was able to positively identify Ms. Hand. A warrant was issued and Ms. Hand was located at a residence in Pineland and taken into custody. She was transported to the Jasper County Jail.
On March 27, 2025, I had the privilege of speaking to the Christus Jasper Memorial Ladies Auxiliary Installation meeting. When I arrived, I received some of the sweetest hugs I’ve ever had in my life. They fed me a wonderful lunch and I spoke to them about everything we have going on at the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. Afterwards, they presented me with a $1,000 check for the J.C.S.O. which is greatly appreciated.
On March 28, 2025, at approximately 1:31 a.m., a Jasper County deputy was patrolling the far south end of the county in the Evadale area. He conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver was identified as Garrett Taylor Lejune, 28, of Silsbee. During the stop, the deputy developed reasonable suspicion that the driver and passenger were engaged in criminal activity. Lejune admitted he was in possession of a handgun hidden in the car and that he was on probation. The deputy confirmed Lejune was out of jail on bond and that he had bond restrictions prohibiting him from being in possession of a firearm. Lejune was placed under arrest for Violate Bond/Protective Order (Class A Misdemeanor) and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
On March 28, 2025, Jasper S.O. Sgt. David Lampman attended the 37th Annual Homicide Investigators of Texas Conference in San Antonio. Homicide investigators from all over the country collaborate and share ideas on similar cases they are working. Sgt. Lampman had an opportunity to hear Detective Gil Carrillo (Retired), who was the lead investigator on the Night Stalker case in Los Angeles in the 1980’s. Besides sharing ideas and making new contacts, Sgt. Lampman also received 24 training hours for attending the conference.
On March 29, 2025, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a family member of a 5-month-old boy who was not breathing at a residence on County Road 877 in Evadale, Texas. Jasper County Sheriff’s deputies and members of the Evadale Fire Department immediately responded and attempted life saving measures. Unfortunately, the child was pronounced deceased by Judge Steve Connor. An autopsy has been ordered and J.C.S.O. is conducting a child death investigation. Our hearts and prayers are with the child and his family.
On March 29, 2025, I attended the Jasper County Jr. Livestock Show. It was nice to get out and visit with people while supporting the youth in our county. Some great livestock and farm animals were shown. The kids took lots of pride in their animals and the lessons learned from raising an animal/s are invaluable.
On March 30, 2025, a Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for expired registration on FM 255 in north Jasper County. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and methamphetamines were located inside the vehicle. Victoria Wilson, 25, of Brookland, was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance (SJF) and booked into the Jasper County Jail.
All persons listed in this report are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
My staff and I are committed to combatting criminal activity and making Jasper County a safer place to live. It is an honor to be the Sheriff of Jasper County. Please don’t hesitate to call us if you need us.
Respectfully,
Chuck Havard
Jasper County Sheriff
