37-Year Law Enforcement Veteran Steve Crowell
As he prepares to take office on January 1st, 2025, Sheriff-Elect Chuck Havard is busy interviewing existing and potential candidates for several positions, in an effort to put the best, most qualified and professional personnel in place for the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff-Elect Havard is proud to announce his intention of appointing Steve Crowell to the position of Major for the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
Steve brings 37 years of law enforcement experience to JCSO. He began his law enforcement career in 1986 at Sour Lake Police Department. After a brief stint with Sour Lake P.D., he went to Lumberton Police Department as a Patrol Officer from 1987-90. In 1990 he graduated from Texas DPS Academy. During his DPS tenure, Steve was a Highway Patrol Trooper, and in 2004, Steve promoted into the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), where he became an agent with the Special Crimes and Criminal Intelligence Divisions of DPS. Additionally, Steve was a member of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, U.S. Marshal’s Service Fugitive Task Force and provided executive protection for numerous state and federal dignitaries. Steve has accumulated approximately 4,000 hours of law enforcement training. Upon his retirement from DPS, Steve took a sales/marketing position in the private sector, and currently holds that position until Jan 1, 2025 when he will begin his position with the JCSO. Steve’s current position allows him to spend time in Jasper County as part of his territory. Sheriff-Elect Havard reiterates his commitment to the people of Jasper County to bring in some of the top professionals in Texas law enforcement. “Steve is exactly this!”
In addition to his many years of law enforcement experience, he also brings a high level of management and leadership experience to JCSO. Sheriff-Elect Havard’s primary goal is to keep deputies in the neighborhoods of Jasper County, combatting theft and drugs. Steve’s extensive experience will be instrumental in this initiative. Sheriff-Elect Havard stated, “He will oversee both the Patrol and Criminal Investigation Divisions; however, the buck always stops with me. Steve is an honorable man of the highest integrity and will be an asset to Jasper County.” Sheriff-Elect Havard went on to say, “Steve is one of the most respected lawmen in Southeast Texas and we are proud to have him on our team.”
Steve states, “I appreciate the confidence Sheriff-Elect Havard has shown in me and I look forward to serving the citizens of Jasper County. My number one priority will be to see the Sheriff-Elect’s mission implemented and carried out and to make Jasper County a safe place to live, work, worship and play. I am looking forward to working with the hardworking men and women that are there and providing an atmosphere of teamwork and leadership.”
