Jasper, TX Jasper County K9 Leroy had to endure emergency surgery last Friday due to a potentially life-threatening condition.

Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard said, "Late last week, Jasper County K9 Leroy began showing signs of being ill during a deployment. His handler, Lt Chad Ainsworth scheduled an appointment with Main Street Veterinary Clinic in Lumberton, who has provided his health services for the last six years."

Havard said that on Friday, after his exam, K9 Leroy was rushed into emergency surgery for gastric torsion or twisted stomach. During the surgery, Dr. Cade Ford also found that Leroy's intestine had wrapped around his spleen, nearly cutting it in half.

Leroy is now home and getting better by the day. Havard said that the only issues he has now is having his food rationed so that he won't over eat, and not being able to go back to work yet.
