Jasper County Deputy makes drug arrest in Evadale Sunday morning

On Sunday, January 5th, at approximately 7:40 a.m., a concerned resident on Coffin Road in Evadale contacted the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office regarding a suspicious vehicle. Sergeant Herb Kelley, who was in the area patrolling neighborhoods, responded and located the vehicle.


After initiating a traffic stop, Sergeant Kelley identified the driver as being Vernon Heath Morton, 37, of Vidor. Sergeant Kelley recognized several indicators of potential criminal activity and conducted a search of Morton. It was discovered that Morton was in possession of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamines.


Morton was arrested and placed in the Jasper County Jail and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, 2nd Degree Felony and traffic warrants.
