On December 7, 2025, at approximately 12:25 p.m., Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard received a call from a woman in Beaumont reporting that her mother in Evadale was experiencing a medical emergency. The caller stated the woman was disoriented, unable to move, and in urgent need of assistance.
Sheriff Havard, along with Deputies “Coach” Morgan and “Dr.” Tipton, responded immediately. Upon arrival, the team spotted an open window at the rear of the residence — and Coach Morgan didn’t hesitate to call an audible. With a quick suggestion (and maybe a grin), he nominated Dr. Tipton for the unconventional entry.
Dr. Tipton climbed through the window, located 88-year-old Dorothy McShan, and ensured she received attention until family members arrived a short time later. Mrs. McShan was then transported into the care of her relatives.

“These two former educators are already making a tremendous impact in our county,” Sheriff Havard said. “Like our other three new deputies, they came to us with distinguished careers even before law enforcement. All five have now completed our FTO program and are working as single-man units. That allows us to reduce response times and greatly increase patrol visibility.”
“I couldn’t be more proud of them and the exceptional service they’re providing to the citizens of Jasper County,” Sheriff Havard added.
