Hopkins honored at SFA

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Texas Forest Country Partnership Economic Development Summit recognized Eddie Hopkins, who received the prestigious Silver Bucket Award for his leadership and contributions to regional development.

Business and community leaders from across East Texas gathered at Stephen F. Austin State University for the Texas Forest Country Partnership Economic Development Summit, celebrating regional progress and leadership.

Hopkins, who serves as the partnership’s treasurer and past chair, also emceed the summit. Hopkins grandson sent a video, that was played during the event, congratulating Hopkins on the earning the award.

Among the highlights, Nicole Colvin and SFA President Dr. Neal Weaver shared insights that resonated with East Texas attendees. Dr. Weaver addressed the importance of resilience, noting that “raising soft kids can be detrimental to their careers.” Colvin stated, "Rural is a great place to be, we have so many more opportunities for partnerships/collaborations... What makes us resilient is the partnerships that you make and the people we work with and collaborate with, I think has made us such a success. When you listen to Eddie talk... you hear it in their voice, how much they care about where they are."

Jasper ISD Superintendent John Seybold praised both honorees, saying, “Nicole Colvin represented Jasper very well, and Eddie Hopkins deserves this award considering everything he does for us.”
