Gist Community Felony Warrant Arrest Leads to Safe Capture

A man wanted on a felony warrant out of Orange County was taken into custody Thursday morning after deputies from both Newton and Jasper counties coordinated to serve the warrant in the Gist Community.
At approximately 10:00 a.m. on June 25, Newton County Sheriff’s Deputy Shaunna Phippen, assisted by Jasper County Deputy Jacob Spivey, responded to a residence in the 100 block of County Road 3137 to arrest Nathan Lum. Lum was wanted in Orange County on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
According to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, Lum was taken into custody without incident and later turned over to deputies from Orange County for transport.
Sheriff Colton Havard commended the efforts of Deputy Phippen and Deputy Spivey, thanking them for their teamwork and professionalism during the arrest.
