Obituary of Gervis Wayne Matthews April 12, 1965 - January 3, 2025
A Celebration of Gervis Wayne Matthews’ Life, age 59, of Livingston, Texas, will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Faithway Missionary Baptist Church in the Erin Community of Jasper County, Texas, with burial to follow at Morgan Cemetery in the Erin Community of Jasper County. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the time of service at the Church.
Gervis passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025 at his home in Livingston, Texas surrounded by his loving family.
A native and lifelong resident of Jasper, Texas, Gervis was a current resident of Livingston, Texas. He had been employed as an Office Manager and Dispatcher for Cornerstone Logistics. He enjoyed hunting (especially coon hunting which earned him the nickname “Koon Dog”), and he also enjoyed football (where he earned another nickname “Wango”). Gervis also enjoyed Nascar and his Jeep Wrangler, but most of all, Gervis loved spending time with his family, his grandkids, and his dog “Sam”, his best friend.
Gervis is survived by his loving wife of five years, Brandi Matthews of Livingston, Texas; daughter, Courtney “Kitten Koon” Stracener of Crosby, Texas; sons, Stephen Burton and wife Kaci of Nederland, Texas, Derek Jordan and wife Lacy of Splendora, Texas and Josh Coppock and wife Malarie of Benton, Arkansas; brother, Shane Lowe of Vinton, Louisiana; sisters, Connie Morgan and husband Kevin of Jasper, Texas, Trina Shaver and husband Johnny of Danbury, Texas and Samantha Walter and husband Danny of Vinton, Louisiana; step-father, Carl Shaver of the Erin Community, Texas and eleven grandchildren, Conner Stracener, Macie Stracener, Millie Stracener, Maridee Burton, Caden Burton, Arabella Jordan, Mary Alice Jordan, Evelyn Jordan, Chasen Jordan, Hunter Knight, and Baylor Coppock.
He was preceded in death by parents, Gervis Rictor Matthews and Laverne Oliver Matthews.
Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Jasper.
