George Stuart Cooper February 27, 1931 - March 26, 2024
A Celebration of George Stuart Cooper’s Life, age 93, of Lumberton, Texas, will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Jasper, Texas. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, March 29, 2024 at the Funeral Home.
George passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Beaumont Healthcare in Beaumont, Texas.
Born in Port Arthur, Texas and longtime resident of Jasper, Texas, George was currently a resident of Lumberton, Texas. He graduated from Newton High School, served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and retired from Owens-Illinois Timber Company after many years of service.
In his early years, after leaving the Navy, George traveled around the country working as a pipeliner. He married the love of his life, Johnie Sue Cooper, on March 9, 1963 after a 6 week courtship. After retiring from Owens-Illinois Timber Company he owned Cooper’s Convenience Store in the Fairmount Community on Toledo Bend. He loved square dancing, attending gospel singing events, wood working and playing dominos and cards with his family and friends. He was happiest when his family was all together. George loved his family and attended all of his grandchildren’s activities.
George is survived by his son Ronnie Cooper and wife Susan of Montgomery, Texas; daughter, Karen Gray and husband Kenny of China, Texas; grandchildren, Malayna Lombardo and husband Ryan, Victoria Cooper and Cameron Cooper and fiancée Ivy Watson and great-grandchildren, Greyson Lombardo and Eliza Lombardo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Fannie Cooper and his wife of over 56 years, Johnie Sue Cooper.
Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Jasper.
