Fourth and Final Suspect Arrested in Kirbyville Deadly Conduct Case

KIRBYVILLE, Texas — A multi-day manhunt connected to a reported firearms threat in Kirbyville has ended with the arrest of a fourth and final suspect, according to Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard.
The incident began on February 2, 2026, when officers with the Kirbyville Police Department responded to a call at approximately 1:12 p.m. reporting that several males were threatening an individual with firearms. Officers arrived shortly after and took three suspects into custody at the scene.
A fourth suspect fled on foot and was last seen in the area of Avenue A in Kirbyville, prompting an active manhunt involving multiple law enforcement agencies. Residents were urged to remain alert and report any sightings to 911.
On February 4, 2026, Sheriff Chuck Havard said his office received a tip that Devonta Spikes, 24, of Newton, a wanted Jasper County fugitive connected to the case, was located in Newton County. Sheriff Havard contacted Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard, who responded immediately and took Spikes into custody.
Spikes was transported back to Jasper County, where he was booked on warrants for Deadly Conduct (MA) and Evading Arrest (MA).
The three other suspects previously arrested in connection with the incident have been identified as:
Brodrick Spikes, 27, of Newton
Emory Sherman, 20, of Newton
Derodney McCain, 29, of Newton
All three are charged with Deadly Conduct.
Sheriff Chuck Havard expressed appreciation to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office for its swift response and to the Kirbyville Police Department for its work throughout the investigation. He emphasized the importance of strong cooperation among local law enforcement agencies.
All suspects are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Sheriff Havard said his office remains committed to combating criminal activity and ensuring public safety throughout Jasper County.
