A spirit of generosity and community connection filled the Jasper County Jail this week, as faith leaders and local volunteers came together to serve a meal and encouragement to inmates and staff alike.

Members of the Touch and the Power of God Church in Jasper, along with Jasper City Councilwoman Mamie Horn, treated the jail’s entire population and employees to a hearty spread of links, hot dogs, cakes, chips, and drinks. The gesture, Sheriff Chuck Havard said, was deeply appreciated by all.

“The food was absolutely delicious and their generosity is greatly appreciated by all of us,” Havard shared in a statement.

Beyond serving food, several women from the church hosted a lively round of bingo with the female inmates before lunch, helping them build confidence, concentration, and a sense of connection.

“Although bingo is a game, it helps our inmates concentrate and think quicker, and it builds their sense of connections and confidence,” Havard added.

The outreach event highlighted how positive engagement and fellowship can provide hope to those incarcerated, reminding them that the community cares about their future.

Sheriff Havard also expressed thanks to local leaders who made the day possible.

“Big shout out to Rev. Charles Adams, Rev. Ray Lewis, and Jasper City Councilwoman Mamie Horn for making this day special,” he said.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office continues to welcome faith-based groups and community organizations to offer outreach programs and resources that can support rehabilitation and positive change.
