Evans' "Mind Works S.T.E.M. Lab" is Now Open

BUNA, Texas - The Buna Public Library and creator Braydon Evans marked the opening of the new “Mind Works STEM Lab” with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that drew more than 50 community members on Saturday.

The hands-on learning space is designed to introduce students to science, technology, engineering and math through interactive activities and equipment. The lab includes multiple learning stations featuring 3D printers, iPads, a safe electrical experimentation area, microscopes, a magnetic wall for Magna-Tiles and Lego-based building tools and more.

The STEM Lab was created as part of an Eagle Scout project led by Brayden Evans, the son of Mickey and Erin Evans. Evans, a member of Boy Scout Troop 88, spent more than eight months planning and completing the project in pursuit of his Eagle Scout rank.

Library officials said the new lab will serve children and families in Buna and surrounding communities by expanding access to educational resources and hands-on learning opportunities.

The project is dedicated in loving memory of Brenda Kay Lopez and Thomas Chase Lopez.

Acronym STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math.

Corporate sponsors for the project were recognized during the ceremony.
