East End VFD has begun a new Scholarship Fund for graduating Seniors within Jasper County ESD#4

This year the East End Volunteer Fire Department decided to start a Scholarship Fund for the seniors graduating within Jasper County Emergency District # 4. We are proud to dedicate this scholarship to the memory of one of our own. Robert Gary Sr was a lifelong resident of Jasper. He graduated from Jasper High school in 1953 where he then went to Stephen F Austin State University to become an educator himself. Robert was not only a teacher for Jasper ISD, he was also a counselor and a bus driver. Other than being a teacher, Robert loved his community, and he saw a need for a Fire Department in the Harrisburg community. Robert donated a patch of land in the mid 90’s for East End VFD to build station 2. Robert was a member of the East End Fire Department for 25 years and loved every minute of it. Robert is the true meaning of public servant. Robert loved his community, Jasper ISD and his church Bishop Chapel Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years.

Robert loved to talk to people and get to know them. If you got Robert talking about his garden, hunting or fishing there was a story to tell and almost every time a lesson to be learned.

This scholarship will be fundraiser funded, If anyone wishes to donate money just for the scholarship the information is listed below. If donations are made solely for the scholarship please notate Scholarship on the check. We will have applications ready for the Senior Class so they can apply with a deadline to be determined. The Fire Department will sit down and review all the applications and decide the winner(s). The winner(s) will receive a minimum of $500.

We hope to bring the whole Jasper Community together and build something Robert would love. He would love to see kids further their education and expand on their future.
