CORRIGAN, Texas (AP) — Daniel Rivera, a Corrigan-Camden ISD student who suffered a medical emergency during a football game last week, has died, district officials said.

Superintendent Brian Aiken said Rivera was not actively playing in the Sept. 26 game when the incident occurred. He was taken to a hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery before later dying.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our student and athlete, Daniel Rivera,” the district said in a statement. “Daniel was not only a dedicated student but also a passionate athlete, a loyal friend, and a cherished member of our Bulldog Family. His energy, kindness and determination left a lasting impact on all who knew him.”
District officials extended condolences to Rivera’s family, friends and teammates, urging the community to honor his memory through “unity, compassion and strength.”
