Convicted felon arrested for weapons violation in Buna

Yesterday morning at approximately 2:50 a.m., a Jasper County Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at Highway 96 south and County road 899 in Buna for a traffic violation. The driver was identified as 40-year-old James Middleton of Jasper.
While speaking with Middleton, the deputy saw a handgun in plain view. The deputy confirmed that Middleton was a convicted felon and he was placed under arrest and taken to the Jasper County Jail for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by Felon which is a 3rd degree felony.
Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard wants the public to know that Middleton is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
