While storms put a temporary pause on the action out on the fairways during Round 1 of the AJGA Junior at Rayburn Resort, energy and excitement filled the room inside the Rayburn Resort Country Club, where the tournament’s Coach’s Corner event was held.

For Kate Golden, golf has always been more than a game — it’s a lifelong journey that began right here in East Texas. The Jasper native and former LPGA Tour player has returned to her roots this week, bringing both her experience and heart to the AJGA Junior at Rayburn Resort presented by the City of Jasper.

Golden, now a respected collegiate golf coach, made time to be part of this week's prestigious junior tournament, offering encouragement and insight to the next generation of golf hopefuls. Her presence alone speaks volumes about the importance of supporting youth sports and giving back to the communities that shape us.

A graduate of Jasper High School, Golden went on to play collegiate golf at the University of Texas before launching a professional career that included nearly a decade on the LPGA Tour. Known for her powerful swing and poise under pressure, she has since transitioned into coaching, helping mold young athletes with the same passion and dedication that defined her playing days.

“Events like this are just as important as what happens on the course,” one parent shared. “It gives these kids a real glimpse into what it takes to take their game to the next level.”

Her appearance at Rayburn Resort isn't just a homecoming — it’s a full-circle moment. From local standout to pro tour player and now mentor, Kate Golden remains a shining example of what dedication, grit, and a little hometown pride can achieve.
