Annual Lamar Y'Barbo Memorial Blood Drive

Kirbyville Volunteer Fire Department is once again sponsoring the Annual Lamar Y’Barbo Memorial Blood Drive. The blood drive this year commemorates 24 years of support to Life Share.

Give blood in memory of Chief Y’Barbo on April 27 at the Kirbyville Volunteer Fire Department.

"Lamar Y’Barbo‚ 54‚ former Chief of the Kirbyville Volunteer Fire Department and nine-year Forest Technician/Firefighter with the Texas Forest Service‚ died tragically on April 7‚ 2000‚ of burns sustained in the line of duty on March 13‚ 2000. He also served with the Fifth Special Forces as a ‘Green Beret’ in Vietnam and received two Purple Heart awards.

Lamar’s dedication and service to others continues to inspire our community. Every year the public comes together to honor him by giving blood. Since 2000, over 1,700 units of life saving blood have been donated in Lamar’s honor, making this memorial blood drive one of LifeShare’s largest continuous memorial blood drives.

“Donating blood helps save lives, just like all the first responders who put their lives on the line every day do. It is an important way we can express gratitude for our fallen heroes while also helping our community. Honor those who have made such great sacrifices by taking 30 minutes to save a life,” says Tiffany Ybarra, LifeShare Blood Center.
